How to Choose the Best Garage Flooring

Every garage requires different needs, so consider all your flooring options before purchasing. We recommend looking out for the three main features of durability, look, and cost

Garage Flooring Considerations

Cost: Regardless of your budget, there is a garage flooring option for you. You can cover a two-car garage for approximately $400 to $6,000+. There are a lot of variables here, including durability, brand, style, installation, etcDurability: You need a floor that will stay sharp and intact from everyday abuse as well as household and vehicle chemicals. If you intend on having substantial rolling weight, look for benefits such as commercial-grade and car-jack approved. Style: Most garage flooring options offer diamond, coin, smooth, or vented patterns. If you choose tiles, you can do all sorts of fun patterns with your layout – mix and match colors, create that classic checkered look, or get crazy with full-on designs.

Other Things to Look Out For

Maintenance: You should weigh the pros and cons of products for their ease of maintenance and if they require any special cleaners, tricks, etc. Installation: Today, most garage flooring is DIY-friendly. We recommend going with our garage floor tiles for a solo project as they are the most lightweight and straightforward to install. While garage flooring rolls are equally easy to install, they are harder to maneuver alone, so having a couple of helping hands will get the job done smoother.

A Guide to Feng Shui Interior Design

The art of feng shui has been practiced for more than 3,000 years. Its principles of creating balance and harmony within the home have become more relevant and desirable in today’s ever-moving, fast-paced world. With purposeful furniture placement and incorporation of natural materials, it can be an effective approach to cultivating a peaceful and relaxing home environment. However, structuring your living space to reflect a feng shui design requires more thought and precision than one might think.

Feng shui offers benefits beyond a tidy living room. While the term “feng shui” is used by designers and real estate agents alike, the ancient practice holds a very specific purpose and meaning. With the tips in this guide, you can manipulate the energy in your home to promote health, passion, success and an overall better quality of life. Learn how to create the ultimatefeng shui interior designfor every room in your home.

What Is Feng Shui?
What Is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is a practice that originated in ancient China. It was developed on the belief that the energy forces, also known as qi or chi, of individuals are influenced by their surrounding environments. The phrase “feng shui” translates to “wind water.” More specifically, feng shui aims to block the wind and cache the water. Water is believed to bring good fortune and wealth.

Planning the layout and design of your home according to feng shui allows positive energy to flow uninhibited through your house and bring you success and prosperity.

The Elements of Feng Shui

Like other design methods, feng shui comes with its own set of rules to follow. These guidelines help promote an effortless flow of qi throughout your house while organizing your living space to reflect a calm and harmonious environment.

Feng Shui Guidlines

Qi, pronounced “chee,” is a transient negative or positive energy that lives within every individual and space. In ancient China, feng shui was practiced by rural communities in the placement of local gravesites to harness the energy of deceased ancestors and other life forces. With this practice, farmers and villagers expected to receive an abundance of prosperity.

The goal is to find the perfect location for each piece of furniture in your space. Keep in mind that though this guide outlines the universal components of feng shui design, the end result will differ from person to person. From where to place your bed to the color of your floors, the layout of each room in your house will determine how your space will look at the end of its makeover.

There are several variations of feng shui practices, but these are key commonalities that will transform your home:

The Five Elements

Feng shui principles begin with the five elements earth, fire, water, metal and wood. In both literal, symbolic and metaphysical ways, these elements regulate different areas within your home. They govern the shapes, colors and emotions that correspond with specific areas featured on the bagua map

Here is how the five elements play a role in interior design:

EarthThose who are familiar with chakras and yoga know that the earth symbolizes balance and stability. Earth is seen as a primarily feminine element that strengthens the emotions of feeling grounded and centered. You can easily incorporate this element at home by furnishing your rooms with crystals or salt lamps, clay vases and candle holders, landscape art and earth-colored flooring and carpets that feature gold or red tones.FireFire represents passion, emotional expression and energy. It fans the flames of inspiration, popularity and transformation. Adding candles and pops of bold reds and vibrant oranges with fresh flowers, throw pillows and art will energize any room. Refrain from using these colors in rooms where you want to relax, as they can be very stimulating.Water There’s a reason the sound of flowing water and rain showers is so relaxing — water symbolizes wisdom, clarity and serenity. The element of water is believed to promote wisdom and help us connect with others. You can use cool or dark colors to bring this element into your home — a mocha- or gray-colored wood floor can perfectly encapsulate water traits. If you’re not a fan of blue tones, adding reflective surfaces and mirrors will have the same effect without imposing on your personal style.
MetalThis element may have you scratching your head, wondering how you can casually incorporate metallic elements into your decor. However, metal is a more dynamic element than you may think. While many people consider metal to be cold and strong, it also represents logic, knowledge, beauty and self-assurance. As a flexible energy, you can embrace this element by adding decor that is gray and white, or using smaller accent pieces like bookends or sculptures.WoodWood represents healing, flexibility, growth and progress. It is associated with masculine traits, but can be adaptive to feminine energy because it is also related to new life. While wood is perhaps one of the easiest elements to include in your home decor, too much of it will throw your home’s energy off balance. So, instead of going overboard with wood paneling, try adding healthy green plants and furnishings that are green, blue and teal.

The Bagua Map

The Bagua Map

The most efficient and common tool for understanding feng shui design is the bagua map. “Bagua” translates to “eight areas,” and is displayed as a three-by-three grid of nine boxes. Each of these squares correlates with a different area of your life, also known as “life aspirations.” These include wisdom, wealth, love, health, family, fame, helpful people, children and career. Other variations of the bagua map are linked to the four directions and astronomy. Every category is connected to an element and color.

The purpose of the bagua map is to analyze the energy within a space and determine what elements are still needed in order to enhance the natural flow of energy. If there are areas in your home that need improvement, you can reference the five elements to bring balance and strength. This is how the elements and bagua categories correlate to one another:

Earth: Health, love and wisdomFire: FameWater: CareerMetal: Children and helpful peopleWood: Wealth and family

The easiest way to use a bagua map to feng shui a house is to lay it over your floor plan with the doorway facing south, and see where the nine energies fall within your home. However, since every house is different, the best way to follow the bagua map is to draw a rough outline of your home’s floor plan. Then, divide the drawing into nine proportionate squares, like a tic-tac-toe board, and label the squares according to the categories displayed in the bagua map.

How to Feng Shui: Where to Begin

How to Feng Shui: Where to Begin

Once you understand the basic principles of feng shui, you’re ready to start redecorating. Knowing your elements and mapping out your home are only the first steps in harnessing positive energy and creating an uplifting and relaxing space. These guidelines will break down the fundamental rules of feng shui so you can start feeling more grounded and at peace today.

1. Declutter and Clean

While some may argue that messiness is a sign of genius, most would agree clutter and excess causes chaos and confusion. A clean space can do wonders for your mental state and leaves more open spaces for incoming energy. If you haven’t given your home a good cleaning or purged your closets and storage of things you no longer use or need, this will give you the motivation to get it done. Don’t forget to maximize your natural light by cleaning your windows!

2. Address Your Entryway

The entryway of the home is called the “mouth of qi.” This is where energy enters into your living space and what people see from the outside. Therefore, it represents your face to the rest of the world. It is important to keep the entry of your home clean and clutter-free. This will allow qi to flow freely. Keeping your entryway clean doesn’t mean it should be completely empty. Rather, focus on making it as warm and welcoming as possible.

3. Consider the Command Position

The commanding position is one of the most commonly practiced feng shui principles. The concept of the command position is believed to help you take charge of your life while feeling secure within the space. In order to achieve this, your bed, desk and stove should be placed in positions that allow you to easily view anyone coming through the door of the room. This doesn’t just keep your subconscious at ease, it also makes you more aware and open to new opportunities that are coming your way.

The command position for each piece of furniture will be different in every room, based on the placement of the door. Feng shui dictates that the ideal position for the best energy flow is the furthest diagonal point from the door. This placement is particularly important in rooms where you spend the most amount of time.

If you aren’t able to place your main pieces of furniture in this location, position them so you can see the door from wherever you are sitting, laying or standing. This is a crucial rule when arranging your bedroom. You are at your most vulnerable when you’re sleeping at night. If you can’t see the door from where you’re lying down, you may feel tense and anxious  the exact opposite of how you want to feel when you’re going to sleep.

4. Eliminate Obstacles

Feng shui is all about efficiency, in one form or another. There should always be a wide, clear path from room to room, as well as enough space for you to move freely throughout each room. Remove any tripping hazards and similar obstacles that inhibit movement. This may mean it’s time to move that coffee table you keep bumping into.

5. Use Color

Color can instantly liven up a space or send it into a spiral of confusion. We’ve reviewed the relationship between colors and the five elements, so you know how important it is to create and maintain a balance of energy in your home using the appropriate colors. In order to achieve this, you will have to take it one room at a time.

The absence or excess of one element or another can quickly throw your space off balance. To fix this, start by surveying the room and noting what tones stand out the most. If you are missing characteristics of a specific element, it should be obvious. For example, if your carpet and walls feature earth tones with metal picture frames or wall decor, you’ll notice that water and wood elements are missing. In this case, you may feel a surge of energy and awareness when you enter the space, making it difficult to relax.

If you’re in touch with your emotions, you can use your feelings and various aspects of your life to guide your inclusion of new colors. If you have been experiencing mental fog and indecision, then grays, whites and metallic tones correlating with the element of metal can provide clarity and precision. For a rush of energy and wisdom, turn to water-related colors like black and dark blue. The five elements are balanced within nature, and colors are one way to bring that stability into your own life.

Feng Shui Interior Design Ideas

The ancient concept of feng shui is widely accepted and practiced in Western design for its inherent comfort and aesthetic. While the original intent of feng shui was to encourage positive energy flow and growth and prosperity in every aspect of life, there’s no denying the physical appeal of this particular design strategy.

These interior design ideas will inspire you with new and creative ways to integrate feng shui elements into your home:

1. Balance the Living Room

Balance the Living Room

The living room is known as a family space and a gathering place for friends and visitors. It houses the largest pieces of furniture, which can quickly make the room feel cluttered and dark. To rearrange the space to reflect feng shui’s design principles, start by moving the sofa so it faces a door and is backed against a wall, preferably the wall that is furthest from the door. There should be a few inches of space between the couch and the wall.

For additional chairs or loveseats, place them in a position that will allow for conversation without cramping the room. When choosing a coffee table, it’s best to buy one that doesn’t have sharp angles. However, if a round shape contrasts too much with the rest of your furniture and decor, you can use a supplement with circular shapes in other areas, like pillows and mirrors.

2. Craft a Calm Bedroom

Craft a Calm Bedroom

In general, your bedroom should be a clutter-free and minimalist space. Too many colors, prints and wall hangings can make the space feel busy and overstimulating. To create a calm and peaceful bedroom, place your bed away from the door, but not in the direct path of the door.

Remove electrical components that sit next to your bed, such as phone chargers and remote controls. While keeping your cellphone close by is a hard habit to break, having it on hand at all times drains your creative energy and affects your focus and clarity. To create balance and tranquility, avoid putting a television in your bedroom. Bedroom TVs can take away your positive and peaceful energy, and they also become the focal point of the space, which is distracting and unattractive.

Abedroom should have elements of masculine and feminine energy. An example of equal balance and representation is using a metal bed frame and covering your mattress with soft-colored blankets and linens. Remember that each element offers its own energy. So if you feel like something is missing from your bedroom, take inventory of the elements that are already represented and fill in the blanks.

Lastly, optimizing your storage may be what is causing your energy to turn for the worst. When your house or apartment lacks closet space, one of the first solutions you think of is to use the empty space under your bed. However, feng shui principles suggest doing the opposite. Filling the space under your bed inhibits qi from flowing freely throughout the space. Rather than adjusting the living space to meet your abundance of material possessions, consider scaling back for a more minimalist approach.

3. Think Floor to Ceiling

 Think Floor to Ceiling

When it comes to redecorating, many people tend to forget that the room itself can use a spruce, not just the furniture and items inside it. Your floors are the foundation for cultivating the perfect feng shui design in your home.

Changing the type of wood, laminate or carpet in your house will make a significant difference in the overall appearance and energy within the space. Keep in mind, flooring for feng shui also involves keeping your floors clean. A clean home naturally makes your space feel brighter and more welcoming.

The corners of a room can also fall victim to neglect. However, they are just as important as any other element of design. The state of corners in a room is a telltale sign of how clean you keep your house, though they are often left untouched when spring cleaning comes around. Remember to dust the corners and vents of every room as you rearrange them.

Lastly, you may be hanging your wall decor too low or off-center. If you have been experiencing depression or dips in your energy, take a look at how your art and picture frames are placed and readjust if necessary.

4. Remove Signs of Negativity

To complete this list offeng shui tips, it’s absolutely vital that you remove any negative symbolism that occupies your space. We subconsciously absorb everything that fills our surroundingenvironment. From movies and television shows to traffic patterns and outside noise, we are affected by everything around us. Negative energy gets into our space unintentionally through symbolism.

Your home is a place of comfort and intimacy, and allowing negativity inside can perpetuate challenges and fear. Remove any bleak or gloomy pictures, dead plants and furniture with severe angles.

If you feel a drop in your mood or confidence when entering a space, this means there may be unaddressed negative feelings associated with something in the room or the room itself. Be sure to note any changes in your own qi as you survey each room in your house, especially if you are particularly affected by a certain object or location within the room. This is a major sign that it’s time to change things up and rebalance your space.

How to Prepare a Home For Resale

Selling your home can be a stressful and painstakingly long ordeal. The process of preparing your home to sell is an entirely different affair that often leaves you with more questions than answers. It doesn’t have to be a mystery, and there are several steps you can take to prepare your home for resale. If you’re ready to get to work preparing your house to hit the market, then here are a few things to consider to get it ready for potential buyers.

What Is Resale?

Resale refers to reselling your home. Unless you built the house and were its first occupants, then chances are you purchased your home from someone else who owned it before you did. The term resale means just that, reselling. Think about what first attracted you to the house that led you to buy it in the first place, and try to imagine what the previous owners did to get it ready for prospective buyers.

You’re preparing to do the same thing again. Preparing a home for resale is a process that takes careful consideration and strategic planning. Ideally, you’re selling your house for more money than you originally paid for it, so you have to think about finances when preparing it for resale.

Checklist for Getting Your House Ready to Sell

Preparing to sell your home means more than slapping on some paint and decluttering the living areas and bedrooms. You want your property to stand out to potential buyers, and there are several steps you need to take to get it ready for resale. You may be wondering how to get a house ready to sell. In that case, take the guesswork out of the process and consider these tips for selling your home.

Checklist for Getting Your House Ready to Sell

1.Organize

Organizing your home will make it more presentable for prospective buyers, and it’s a great place to start when you’re preparing it to sell. Start by organizing the following areas of your house:

Closets and cabinets: Organize your closets and cabinets by pulling everything out of them and getting rid of old items that you don’t use anymore. By the way, this will also help when you go to move, too. After you’ve pulled everything out, sort it neatly in its place. You’ll also want to clean the floors, walls and ceiling. Potential buyers are certainly going to look in the closets and around the bedrooms. Garage and storage shed: Potential buyers will inspect the garage and any storage sheds or buildings around the property since you’re selling them with the house. Organize your garage and other storage buildings by hanging any large loose items such as bicycles. Neatly arrange your gardening tools and other equipment along with your workbench area by hanging tools on hooks.Patio space and lawn: Prospective buyers want to know they’re buying a house that has been well maintained and kept up with over the years. Organize your patio space by rolling up hoses and placing other equipment where it belongs. Kitchen and bathrooms: Be sure to organize your kitchen and bathrooms to look presentable and clean when you’re showing your house. Be sure to set out fresh unused towels on the days you’re showing the house.

Organizing your home shows homebuyers that you have maintained the house over the years. It makes them feel better about buying the house from you. You can start with these spaces and move on from there. Other areas that you’ll want to organize include kitchen drawers and any shelving spaces, especially those in your living room. Selling your house is all about presentation, and an organized area presents better than a disorganized one.

2.Depersonalize

Take your valuable items and family heirlooms down from around the home. Depersonalizing spaces involves removing those items that make them yours and replacing them with more general decorations and other things. You want your prospective buyers to be able to envision themselves living in the space, not the other way around. Present a blank canvas to prospective buyers by removing photos, heirlooms and other memorabilia from the walls and shelves.

Keep in mind that you’re trying to sell your house to prospective buyers. By depersonalizing the space, you’re also disconnecting yourself emotionally from these spaces. For example, you should consider replacing photographs of yourself and your family across shelves with small plants and simple decorations.

Take any family heirlooms or other personal antiques down from around the house and pack them to move or store them in an inconspicuous spot such as a closet or storage building. These items are often not as appealing to prospective buyers as they are to you.

3.Repair and Replace

One of the best tips for selling your home quickly is making minor home improvements and repairing existing issues. Replace any broken items and make necessary repairs before showing your home to prospective buyers. Pay close attention to the following areas:

Leaky faucets: Repair those leaky bathrooms and kitchen faucets before showing your house. Potential buyers are sure to try the water faucets, and you don’t want a leak or poor pressure to cost you a potential sale. Fix these yourself or consider hiring a plumber or another home service professional if you’re unsure. Broken tiles and flooring: Replace and repair any cracked tiles and flooring before you show your house. Pay special attention to the high traffic areas around your home, such as doorways. Replace any old carpeting and consider refinishing flooring before showing your house.  Doors and handles: Replace or repair broken and loose door handles and knobs. Check handles and knobs from both directions to ensure they turn and stay secure when you close them. Drawers: Ensure your kitchen and cabinet drawers move smoothly and slide in and out like they’re supposed to. Fix any drawers that might be sticking or getting jammed. Look for any cracked or broken drawers and cabinet doors and get those fixed or replaced if you need them. One of the first things prospective buyers will do is open the cabinets and kitchen drawers to inspect storage options and space. Patch holes: Getting ready to sell your house is a great time to patch those holes and get your walls looking like new before showing them to potential buyers. Light bulbs: Go through your house and check the light bulbs. Replace any blown bulbs and older bulbs that you haven’t replaced for a while. Double-check your lights and go through the house, turning switches on and off to ensure they’re all working efficiently.

Pay close attention to walls, ceilings and floors when you’re going through making any necessary repairs. Cracked or chipped tiles and hardwood flooring is an immediate red flag, especially for experienced potential buyers. Cracks in the floors or walls can signal foundation and structural damage, so you should understand what has caused this to happen in the first place.

4. Clean

Cleaning your house to get it ready to sell is paramount. It sounds like a given, but you will need to present a clean environment to possible buyers. Displaying a clean house is one of the best ways to sell it quickly. There are different approaches you can take.

You can decide to clean your house yourself or hire a professional cleaning company to do it for you. Depending on your daily schedule and the size of your home, you’ll likely want to consider the latter. Hiring a professional crew will ensure that your house is as clean as possible when it’s time to show it.

If you opt for cleaning your house yourself, then remember to keep these areas in mind:

Dust the entire house top to bottom: Dust your whole house by pulling out furniture and cleaning from the top down. Start with the top floors and work your way down. If you don’t have stairs, begin by cleaning the highest points of your house first, such as the ceilings and ceiling fans, before making your way down to the floors. It’s a good idea to vacuum as you go and work your way from room to room.  Clean carpets and floors: The longevity of your hardwood floors and carpeting depends on how and when you clean them. Present a clean house by shampooing carpets and steam cleaning the floors. You can typically rent the equipment to do this at your local hardware store. Once you’ve cleaned them, be sure to keep them clean by vacuuming daily and frequently mopping.  Scrub the surfaces paying close attention to bathrooms: Remove everything from your bathroom counters and other surfaces before cleaning them with hot soapy water or disinfectant spray. Clean your bathroom mirrors the day of a showing to ensure they are sparkling and free from water spots. Focus on the house’s surfaces as opposed to yours. Countertops, stovetop, cabinets, drawers and showers and tubs are all great places to start when cleaning and preparing your house for sale. Scrub stains and clean the nooks and crannies around your countertops.  Thoroughly clean the kitchen and appliances: The kitchen is a valuable room for potential buyers, so you’ll want to be sure it’s thoroughly cleaned and organized. Scrub all of your surfaces, and be sure to have your appliances shining, especially if you’re selling them with the house. You’ll also want to thoroughly clean and declutter the countertops as well as your kitchen floors.

The kitchen is one of the most appealing rooms to potential buyers because the family gathers to cook and eat meals there. Since remodeling a kitchen yields a high return on investment (ROI), you may want to replace old carpeting or countertops. If you’re updating your kitchen to get your house ready for resale, then there are affordable options for kitchen flooring and countertops to consider.

5. Increase Curb Appeal

Curb appeal refers to the way your house looks to someone standing in the street or walking by, and it’s the initial impression someone gets when they see it for the first time. Your home’s curb appeal affects its resale value.

You don’t want to invest in expensive landscaping or front yard construction projects to increase your home’s curb appeal, so try taking the following steps before opening your wallet:

Pay close attention to the entrance and front door: Clean the area around your front door and replace the welcome mat with a new one. Try to remove your old screen door if possible and paint or clean your front door. Sweep your porch and wash the windows with hot soapy water followed by a cleaner. You can also choose to paint your front door. A fresh coat of paint, especially neutral or earthy tones, will make your front entrance inviting and welcoming for possible buyers.Remove all personalized and decorative items: Takedown any decorations, such as hanging string lights, wind chimes, wreaths and other things. Just like you remove personal photos and heirlooms from around the house, remove them from the outside as well. Getting rid of these items will help you declutter the outside and help it look clean and organized. You’ll also want to offer your prospective buyers a clean slate that they can envision turning into their own outdoor space.  Mow, trim and clean around your property: Be sure to mow and trim the lawn and the areas around your property. Use a string trimmer to cut the places you can’t reach with a traditional mower. Use a leaf blower to dispense of the clippings and clean the yard after you’ve finished. You’ll also want to trim any shrubs and trees, especially in front of your house near the entrance. Trim them evenly across the yard.  Clean paved areas including walkways, patios and driveway: Start with blowing leaves and debris off your walkways, patios and driveway, followed by hosing them off. While you’re cleaning, check for any cracks or breaks and take note to get those repaired. Clean any oil stains or spots off your driveway or from the floor of your garage if possible. Pick up and store any items from around these areas, such as bikes, garbage cans and kid’s toys.

These are just a few simple ways to improve your yard to enhance your home’s curb appeal. You can also consider planting a few new shrubs if you don’t already have any around your house. Other more costly projects you can consider to enhance curb appeal include painting the exterior and installing mulch and flower beds.

How to Give Your Floors a Makeover

Are you starting to feel like your floors have seen better days? It happens in the best of cases. Even hardwood floors that have stood the test of time and been rigorously cleaned for decades can need a refresh.

When you begin to fall out of love with your floors, it’s probably time for a floor makeover. Below are some of the easiest ways to give floors a boost, even if you’re on a tight budget.

Update the Stain on Your Hardwood Floors

If your hardwood floors have begun to show wear and tear, considerchanging the colorby sanding and restaining them.

Adding a different stain as part of yourhardwood flooring refinishing projectcan change the way your floors look. For instance, you might want to move from a light stain to a darker one to add a touch of sophistication to a space. Or, you might want to opt for a new stain to bring out hidden warmth in your hardwood planks.

If you’re not comfortable staining your hardwood solo, contact a professional who can help.

Paint the Floor

If you have a concrete floor in your garage or basement, you may notice discoloration in areas from dirt or grease and oil spots from vehicles. Even after scrubbing down your concrete flooring, you may find that it’s not looking its finest. That’s where painting floors can come in handy.

Paint made specifically for use on concrete floors comes in a variety of shades. You’ll be amazed at how fresh your space looks after you giving it a couple of coatings!

Install New Flooring

In some cases, floors just can’t be fixed. You may have kept in mind thefive myths about floor cleaning, but your flooring may still not live up to your standards. In this case, installing new flooring may be your best bet.

One of your floor makeover choices could be to swap out your old flooring for a new version. For example, your kitchen floor may be made of older laminate that’s looking worn and stained. Today’s laminates are far easier to maintain and come in trendy textures, designs and palettes. Carpet and hardwood can also benefit from new flooring upgrades.

Clean Your Grout

It can be easy to forget about the grout between your tiles. Because of the material’s porous nature, it absorbs everything from odors to moisture. Grout can also be prone to cracking and breaking.

When you want to clean your grout, you have a few choices. If the material is simply dirty, you can clean it with a grout pen or other cleaning substance. If you want to completely refresh your flooring, regrouting your tile is another option.

Dye Your High-End Carpets

If you want to refresh your carpet without installing new material, you can choose to dye it. With proper preparation and professional-grade carpet dye, you may be able to revitalize a dated carpet that still has a lot of life left in it.

Be sure to look over the online reviews of any carpet dye you consider before making your final decision. Also, always weigh the cost and process of dyeing against the cost of installing a replacement.

Your Floors Deserve Refinishing, Refurbishing and Refreshing

Floors undergo a lot of wear and tear, so it makes sense that they eventually start to show their age. However, you can opt to renew yours with a flooring makeover.

If you want to install new flooring, you can contact 50 Floor toschedule an in-home consultation and see how various types of flooring will look in each of your spaces.

Best Flooring for Modern Kitchens

Kitchens have evolved over the years. Today’s modern kitchen often includes multiple appliances and maybe even a smart tech element or two.

To bump up the modern home design of your contemporary kitchen, be sure to choose floors that exude a leading-edge feel. 50 Floor shares our top recommendations for picking kitchen floors that look fresh and updated.

What Makes a Kitchen Modern?

Your definition of modern may differ slightly from someone else’s. Most people envision modern design as having a few specific elements, such as:

Clean lines: Chaotic or muddled designs don’t tend to be part of contemporary kitchen design.Strong lighting: Lighting elements are essential for modern kitchens because they make the space seem airier and more natural.Shine and gloss:When you walk into an updated, modern kitchen, you know it immediately. You’ll see the sparkle from the stainless steel refrigerator to the polished and sleek countertops.

Keeping these traits in mind, you can start to choose between the suitable contemporary floor options available.

Vinyl Flooring

Forget everything you knew about vinyl flooring. Today’s vinyl floors include various patterns and textures to mimic the appearance of anything from porcelain tiles to exotic hardwoods.

When selecting a vinyl floor for your contemporary kitchen, opt for lighter tones and neutrals. That way, you can achieve a minimalist aesthetic.

Hardwood Floors

Many people worry that they have to give up their hardwood flooring dreams to have a modern kitchen. The right hardwood flooring can accentuate the crisp, defined lines of a food prep and eat-in space.

Aim to choose hardwoods and engineered hardwoods that contain fewer knots and longer grains. Find a hardwood that can withstand a lot of traffic. Kitchens tend to be some of the busiest rooms, so you need a hardwood that can keep up without scuffing or scratching.

Tile Floors

There are limitless perks to tile floors when you’re updating your kitchen to achieve a modern flair. This kind of flooring can bring out a sense of sparkle and play from porcelain to ceramic tiles.

In keeping with the classy feel of your modern kitchen, avoid excessive or highly contrasting tile patterns. Instead, lean toward conservative patterning or monochromatic — or almost monochromatic — designs. Your kitchen will get a visual boost, and you’ll get the benefit of knowing that you’ve picked a floor that will go the distance.

Floors for the Kitchen of the Future

Has your kitchen been stuck in a time warp? Bring it into the future with floors that say 2021 — not 1980. At 50 Floor, our team of flooring specialists is ready to come to your home with a range of floor samples. That way, you can try different modern kitchen floors before making your choice. It’s the easiest way to move from a dated to a modern kitchen design.

9 Rubber Flooring Pros and Cons: What You Should Know

Thinking about building a home gym and wondering if rubber flooring is the right choice for your space? You probably know that rubber flooring is the gold standard in gym flooring, but maybe you’re concerned about potential drawbacks.

The last thing you want is to make a purchase you regret. This guide can help! We’re taking an in-depth look at rubber flooring to find all the benefits and some important considerations.

Discover the top nine rubber flooring pros and cons to help you make a smart shopping decision.

What is Rubber Gym Flooring?

Dura Lock Rubber Tiles

Known for its versatility and durability, rubber flooring is the ideal surface for your gym. Whether you’re trying to create a workout room or updating a commercial gym, you can find the perfect flooring to meet your needs.

Most rubber flooring is made from materials like recycled vehicle tires. This makes the flooring extremely durable and low-maintenance.

Rubber flooring also comes with several DIY-friendly options. You can choose from interlocking tiles, rolls, mats, and sheet to fit your space.

Rubber is the ultimate gym flooring option, and there are many reasons for this, from durability to DIY installation. Check out these advantages of rubber flooring that make it so popular.

Slip Resistance

8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls

Rubber flooring is unique because it becomes more slip-resistant when it gets wet. That means you have a safe, slip-free surface to work out on, no matter the conditions. You don’t have to worry about spills causing potential injury.

Plus, because it doesn’t get slippery when wet, rubber flooring is also ideal for outside use. Install it in your yard to create an easy outdoor workout area.

Water-Resistant

4' x 6' Premium Mats - Designer Series

In addition to being slip-resistant, rubber flooring is also water-resistant!

To be 100% certain no water ever reaches your subfloor, you can seal the flooring with a rubber floor finish and sealer and also seal the seams with a seam sealer. Without a finish and sealer, there is still a chance water can get under the flooring.

Incredibly Durable

1/4

Rubber flooring is built with durability in mind. After all, it needs to handle heavy workouts and high-traffic commercial gyms.

While the common misconception is that thicker rubber means higher durability, that’s not necessarily true. Durability is more about density. Dense rubber flooring is tough and durable. You can rip apart low-density rubber flooring with your bare hands.

Vulcanized and virgin rubber are the most durable. If you need superb durability, make sure to search for these options.

Vulcanized rubber: During the vulcanization process, the rubber is compressed into a dense, ultra-durable, non-porous rubber. This option naturally has a significantly milder scent than non-vulcanized rubber.Virgin rubber: For the purest natural rubber, you can choose virgin rubber floor tiles, which don’t include any recycled material. Virgin rubber is guaranteed to have no additives or latex.

bsorbs Impact

3/8

Intense workouts can put a lot of stress on your joints, so you need flooring that can absorb the impact of your burpees, plyometric workouts, and dropped weights.

High impact rubber flooring can lessen the stress and wear on your knees, back, and hips, and protect you from injury.

For the best high-impact gym flooring, look for products made from recycled, lower-density rubber. You can also find flooring with waffle backings designed specifically to absorb heavy impacts.

Easy Installation

8mm Strong Rubber Tiles

One of the best things about rubber flooring is the ease of installation. Whether you choose rubber floor tiles, rubber rolls, or rubber gym mats, you can upgrade your gym in a single afternoon.

Rubber tiles are the most DIY-friendly option. The edges interlock together like giant puzzle pieces, and they’re heavy enough that you don’t need to glue them down.

Rubber flooring rolls are also extremely easy to install. You just roll them out, and you’re done!

Cons of Rubber Gym Flooring

1/2

Smell

3/8

Rubber flooring does have a distinct smell. This is caused by off-gassing from the glue that holds the flooring together and the rubber itself.

Some products smell stronger than others, depending on the type of raw material used or how the flooring was made. For example, virgin rubber flooring doesn’t really have a smell, so if you’re sensitive to the smell, this would be the best option for you.

When you first get your flooring, the smell will be the strongest, but after installation, it will become less intense after a few weeks.

You can also mop a few times with a mild soap and water cleaning solution like Dawn or Tide, and then keep the room well-ventilated or leave the flooring outside to dry. This should alleviate the smell.

Style

Big Chip Rubber Rolls

Rubber flooring is very functional, but it’s not necessarily known for its style. For the most part, your flooring is going to be black. If you want a minimalist look, this isn’t a problem.

One way to amp up the style is to introduce color. Some options will come with EPDM color flecks, containing anywhere from 10% to 95% color fleck. Virgin rubber flooring even offers full color for a more vivid look. Just keep in mind, more color typically means a bigger price tag.

Price

Eco-Lock Rubber Tiles

As you consider rubber flooring pros and cons, price may be a big factor. Rubber is premium gym flooring. It’s ultra-durable with highly sought-after features like shock absorbency, a non-slip surface, and easy installation. This is an investment in your gym and your fitness, and the cost is worth it.

Heavy

Pre-Cut Regrind Rolls

The densest and most durable options are pretty heavy, especially if you’re installing a cumbersome rubber roll or a mat.

If you want more portable gym flooring, consider something lighter like 6mm Energy Rubber Tiles

2022 Trending Carpet Types

If you don’t know much about carpet, you may not realize that you have several types to choose from. You can have cozy, trendy flooring in a snap, from beautifully convenient carpet tiles to stylish throw rugs to innovative carpet planks.

Carpet Tiles

Carpet is notorious for being bulky, cumbersome, and nearly impossible to replace. If you damage or stain just one small area with broadloom carpet, you typically have to replace the entire thing. It is the worst.

One main advantage of carpet tile is that it’s modular and easily replaceable, making it excellent for families and pets. Did one spot get damaged? No problem! Simply take out that one tile and replace it with a new one. The days of replacing your entire floor are over.

In fact, carpet tiles are the biggest carpet trend for basements. Many come with waterproof options, and they are perfect for temperamental, water-prone basements.

Carpet tiles also allow you to install your carpet yourself or create a cute area rug with ease, especially with peel and stick options. Not to mention, the possibilities for patterns and colors are endless! If you love choices, carpet tiles are for you.

Will the carpet tile trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Absolutely, especially with families. I expect to see carpet tiles continue to grow from being primarily a commercial trend to becoming popular in homes.

Carpet Planks

2021 Carpet Trends: Carpet Planks

What, you thought planks were just for hard surfaces? Think again! Carpet planks are the latest innovation in the carpet industry and are predicted to make a HUGE impact in 2022.

Carpet planks are very similar to carpet tiles. The only difference is the shape. They still have an incredible DIY-friendly installation with great water- and stain-resistant features. But now, you can create unique patterns such as herringbone. You don’t have to compromise coziness for modern looks anymore!

Will the carpet plank trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Carpet planks are here to stay! With the convenience of installation and style, this type of carpet will be around for decades.

Greco Outdoor Area Rug on a patio.

Well, if you haven’t caught on by now, area rugs and carpet runners are in.

Bold colors and patterns could easily turn tacky with wall-to-wall carpet. These statement pieces tend to do best in smaller doses. That’s what’s great about area rugs and carpet runners. You can strategically use those bright, bold color and patterned 2022 carpet trends in one statement piece, rather than an entire carpet.

Also, you will see some homeowners use area rugs over carpet to give that popular layered look for a more bohemian vibe.

But no two area rugs are the same, so let’s talk about your trendy area rug options.

Carpet Tile/Plank Rugs

Berber Carpet Tiles as an Area rugs

This makes so much sense, right? The two main challenges with area rugs are that designs are limited and it’s challenging to figure out the right sizing for your space.

You can create your dream area rug and create a custom size to fit your space perfectly with a carpet plank rug. Also, they often end up being less expensive than traditional area rugs.

With the rise of DIY home projects, carpet tile rugs are especially timely right now. They’ll be the most popular with younger homeowners looking to take a bigger part in creating their own style and decor.

Handmade Area Rugs

2021 Carpet Trends: Homemade area rug

Taking originality and control one step further, the hottest area rug trend in 2022 will be specially crafted handmade rugs. I mean, how can those not take off?

Homeowners want to know where their floor comes from and trust the source. Purchasing a handmade piece makes things personal. It’s like when you buy something made just for you from a small, budding business and it comes with that cute little note about how they appreciate you. Except, on a much higher level. Because they made a rug by hand, that’s a commitment.

While it might be pricey, handmade area rugs are creative, artistic, personal, and perfect for homeowners with a passion for design and individualism. The rest of us are going to gawk and wish we had them in our homes, too.

Vintage Area Rugs

Vintage Area Rug

While we love items that come with a history, that’s not exactly what we’re talking about with vintage area rugs. In 2022, you’ll see area rugs that look as though they have lived a long life under a lot of feet. But really, it’s a rug that was made to look worn.

It sounds outlandish, but it’s the eclectic vintage look that adds style and personality to your space. These rugs are actually treated with the “vintage effect” in which carpets deliberately lack bold colors and patterns to look aged. This can be done with special dyeing, and the pile is removed industrially.

If you’re looking to add character with an area rug, why not have it look like it has an incredible story behind it?

Will the area rug trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes, area rugs are the perfect solution for hard surface and carpeted floors to add extra coziness and a pop of style.

But, with options such as handcrafted area rugs, they have the potential to get expensive. This is just not the type of thing everyone can afford. I anticipate that manufacturers will work to replicate these handmade looks to appeal to the masses at a more accessible price.

2022 Trending Carpet Features

As I said, carpet manufacturers are taking advantage of technology to give us an easy, functional carpet that is also cozy. What features in particular are making a splash in 2022? Check it out!

Waterproof Carpet

2021 Carpet Trends: Waterproof carpet in a garage setting.

That’s right, waterproof carpet. I don’t know about you but those are two terms I never thought I’d see together. There has been a pretty big movement in waterproof outdoor carpet over the last decade. Still, the move to fully waterproof indoor carpet has been unheard of.

Until now!

Manufacturers are making an impact with their incredible technology that makes these new carpets 100% waterproof. That means you can now use carpet in any room in the house.

These waterproof carpets won’t soak up the water and stain or get moldy. Instead, you can easily clean up any liquids in seconds without them soaking in for the long haul. Even better, it’s not just broadloom carpets that are waterproof. You can get carpet tiles, planks, and area rugs that are 100% waterproof as well!

Although only a few manufacturers carry waterproof carpets, my hunch is that other manufacturers will jump on board, and, within the next decade, you’ll see waterproof carpets all over the place.

Will the waterproof carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes. This trend is here to stay because a waterproof carpet is way more functional than a traditional carpet. But it will be a slow surge.

The thing is, this technology is so new that the floors still come with a pretty hefty price tag. As technologies advance and more manufacturers jump on board, pricing will get more competitive, and then waterproof carpet will take off.

With fibers that are coated to repel any stains, all you have to do is blot away the spills, and you’re good to go. In 2022, your carpets can be stain-free!

Will the stain-resistant carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This trend will absolutely last. Between kids, pets, and general life, a stain-resistant carpet can save a lot of time and effort. I anticipate more manufacturers will be creating stain-resistant and perhaps stainproof carpet in the future!

Eco-Friendly Carpet

Shaw Floorigami Tri-Tone Carpet Plank

Nowadays, most homeowners and businesses tend to care a lot about the brands they purchase from and how their purchases impact society, the environment, and more.

That’s why carpet manufacturers started creating products that are not only durable but also environmentally friendly. With carpets made from recycled water bottles, recycled synthetic fibers, and much more, 2022 wants you to have a sustainable carpet you love!

Let’s talk about the options for sustainable carpet.

Recycled Carpet

The recycled flooring trend is hot all around this year, and carpet just happens to be at the forefront of the environmentally responsible flooring movement.

Because “green” or eco-friendly flooring is so big right now, almost all carpet is now being made from recycled materials, at least in part. You’ll see various types of recycled materials, but one of the most innovative ideas is Mohawk’s Air.o carpet These unique carpets are made using recycled plastic bottles that do not compromise the comfort or durability of your floor as it’s also stain-resistant.

Sisal Carpet

Sisal carpets are sustainably sourced from the woven plant fibers of the agave sisal. This fantastic, eco-friendly carpet has a rope-like texture that adds a unique, homey look to any space.

Both natural sisal and sisal blend carpets are highly durable. They can hold up in heavy traffic areas without any problem. For extra stain resistance, choose an option with a sealing or fire-retardant coating.

Jute Rugs

Plant-based flooring is taking off this year! Case-in-point: jute rugs and carpets. Woven from the same plant fibers that often make burlap, jute rugs are a great indoor decor option.

These thick, tightly wound rugs are pretty durable in low-traffic areas, but they won’t be a good fit for really hectic areas. They don’t require any special treatment – vacuum as you would with any other rug. Jute is pretty absorbent, though, since it’s a plant fiber, so avoid lots of moisture and areas where stains are more likely.

Will the eco-friendly carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

If there were ever a sure thing in the world of trends, this would be it. I predict consumers will only demand more sustainable and recycled materials and environmentally responsible flooring options for the next several decades.

So much so that just putting an eco-friendly floor in your home could increase the resale value and reduce time on the market.

2022 Trending Carpet Themes

Joy Carpets Gridiron Carpet

We just got done talking about carpet colors and pattern trends for 2022. What else can we talk about?

The theme ties everything together. For instance, in your living room, you probably have a certain vibe or theme you’re going for. Be it modern, bohemian, coastal, or retro, you have a certain aesthetic you want. That’s where carpet themes come into play.

In the year 2022, the theme is simple. Express yourself. These carpet themes will help you do just that.

Maximalist Carpet

2021 Carpet Trends: Maximalism carpet

We’ve all heard of minimalism, right? Well in 2022 consumers are wanting the exact opposite. Maximalism is a practice that is inspired by living out LOUD with bold patterns and colors.

This type of carpet is meant to express your style and uniqueness through your flooring. It’s confidence, it’s beautiful, and it’s all the rage for 2022. Gone are those monotone carpets and walls. Instead, picture pops of color, bold carpet patterns, cool wallpaper, and everything you love stylishly put into one room.

Will the maximalist carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This trend will last for a few years at best. While it is awesome to live your extravagant life throughout your home, like trends, you’re changing every day so the patterns and colors you love now will probably change.

Modern Carpet

FlooringInc 2021 carpet trends: geometric carpet in the living room

If bold and bright isn’t really the move for you design-wise, have no fear! The modern style is here!

Clean, simple, and classic, modern carpet is typically one earth-tone color that creates a cozy, pretty backdrop for your room. Material like sisal and jute will give your space a natural vibe so you can create a beautiful modern room with furniture and decor.

For a more relaxed, peaceful atmosphere, modern carpet is all the rage.

Will the modern carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Because this trend is so subtle and understated, it will more than likely last for decades. Clean and simple always does.

Carpet color trends are completely different than any other surface. The hard surfaces are all about natural wood looks, so the color options feel limited. Trends in carpet colors are the opposite. Expect to see bright, bold colors, cool, subdued blues, and everything gray.

Bold Carpet Colors

Bold Carpet Colors- Fluid Carpet tile

Homeowners are trending towards statement colors with their carpet. Since carpet is not typically a whole-house flooring these days, you can make a statement. This is especially true with area rugs.

Jewel tones, oranges, purples, and multi-colored carpets and rugs are popping up all over the place. Maximalism is in, so your carpet can make a splash!

Although at one time, flooring was intended to be a neutral backdrop for the rest of your space, homeowners, particularly younger demographics, are turning that idea on its head exploring the idea of incorporating carpet into their design rather than designing around it.

Will the bold carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes and no. In area rugs and other small, statement places, this carpet design trend will thrive! But as a modern wall-to-wall carpet trend, you have to be strategic with bright bold colors as it can borderline on too much.

Blue Carpets

Shaw Block By Block Carpet Tiles

Is there any color more calming and serene than blue? Adding a touch of color without overwhelming the space, cool blue carpets are a color trend I can stand behind.

While the bright, bold colors can make a beautiful, strong statement, they can also be a lot to work with if you’re not a designer. Or, even if you are.

Blue is a nice transition out of the norm of neutral carpets with enough subtlety to appeal to multiple demographics. It works perfectly with trending gray decor and is neutral enough to not pigeonhole you into one design concept.

Will the blue carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes, particularly blues with a hint of gray. A subdued blue is easier to work with from a design standpoint.

Gray Carpets

2021 Gray carpet color- Uptown Carpet tile

While most people think of the gray flooring trend in gray wood and wood-look flooring, gray is also popular for carpet right now, too. Traditional neutral colors like beige are out and gray is the new neutral, adding a gorgeous, contemporary look to any room.

Gray has quickly become the most popular trend, not just for flooring, but for homes in general. Gray cabinets, gray doors, you name it. And every shade of gray is still hot and trendy in the home. For your floors and decor.

Even better? If you go with gray, when you choose carpet colors, you can choose just about any shade and still be in style. Even once out-of-date dark gray carpeting is making a comeback.

In addition to looking chic and trendy, gray carpet sets the tone of a cool, contemporary space. It gives you a neutral backdrop for decorating in virtually any color. Aquas, greens, bright bold colors or even black and white – they will all go with your sleek gray carpeting.

Will the gray carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Absolutely! Gray will be hot and trendy for decades to come.

Multi-Color Carpet trends

Okay, so this is one of the coolest things happening in the carpet world! You don’t have to choose one color for your carpet, you can have them all!

In carpet runner trends and area rug trends specifically, you will see bright, bold colors. Whether you’re looking for an area rug for your kids’ room or going the maximalist route for decor, a multi-color area rug can give your floors an eye-catching statement.

Will the multi-color carpet trends last in 2022 and beyond?

As a statement piece, you bet! But if you’re considering doing a multi-colored wall-to-wall carpet, I wouldn’t count on it.

In 2022, you will see a combination of solid, traditional carpets with the up-and-coming contemporary carpet patterns in bold, eye-catching designs. While traditional isn’t going anywhere, fun patterns are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among young homeowners.

Geometric Carpet Patterns

Joy Carpets Moderne Carpet

The days of boring broadloom carpets are over. One of the biggest carpet industry trends is a modern patterned carpet.

Inspired by maximalism, Moroccan trellis designs, reminiscent of the also trending arabesque tiles, will be one of the hottest trends this year. I also anticipate plenty of hexagon pattern carpets and even some new, creative patterned wall-to-wall carpeting.

Will the geometric carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Well, I don’t see any reason why the more subtle, classy patterns can’t stay current. Big, bold patterns, however, will likely go out of style in the next 5-10 years.

At least, until they are revived in another 30.

nimal Print Patterns

When it’s time to make a big statement in an otherwise bland space, nothing says “ROAR” like a cheetah, zebra, or giraffe print. These patterns aren’t just for the kids’ room. Spice up your office space with a sleek, sophisticated print, or create a fun conversation piece for visitors in the living room.

The choices don’t end there. You can go big with a full coverage carpet, or moderate your wild urges with a smaller area rug. Whatever you choose, you won’t be wrong. Just follow your instincts!

Even better, all those bold patterns are perfect for distracting eyes away from stains and dirt. Haven’t rolled out the vacuum in a few days? No problem. Your animal print has got you covered.

Will the animal print carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Probably not, or at least not for long. This is a big, bold choice. Some people might love animal prints in their homes forever! But most won’t. If you have plans to sell your home anytime soon, I recommend you choose something a bit less adventurous.

A carpet’s texture can be what sets it apart from others. You can get different designs within your carpet based on how manufacturers treat the carpet’s fibers. Which makes the carpet unique and eye-catching, while still feeling great underfoot.

Plush Carpet

Plush Carpet: Masland Distinguished

Softness is exactly what makes carpet special, and that ultra-softness is something hard floors just cannot compete with.

People started to see carpet as high-maintenance with the trapped dust and allergens, along with the need for constant vacuuming. So, the plush carpet lost its spark for a while. But now, with life-friendly features, such as stain-resistance, and waterproof fibers, plush carpets are BACK!

That’s why we are seeing a massive surge in carpet buying trends going back to thick, luxurious, plush carpeting.

Will the plush carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes. You’ll see lots of the plush carpet trends in new homes in cool climates.

It may become more and less trendy throughout the years, but until they come up with an equally comfortable alternative elsewhere, this trend isn’t going anywhere for good!

Cut and Loop Carpet

FlooringInc 2020 carpet trends: gray geometric print carpet for the basement

Cut and loop is exactly what it sounds like: carpet that combines cut carpet fibers and looped carpet fibers.

When you combine cuts and loops, you can create unique, stylish patterns and textures. You’ve probably seen this a lot in rugs. When you run your hand along the rug and you can feel the contrasting textures? That is usually cut and loop carpeting.

Patterns are super in right now across all floor types, and these cut and loop patterned carpets have been going strong for several years now.

Will the cut and loop carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Because it’s a unique texture and patterns that are different from your run-of-the-mill carpet, we believe cut and loop carpet will last for the next decade or so.

Will the frieze carpet trend last in 2022 and beyond?

The latest carpet trends for bedrooms include many of the trends mentioned above. You’ll see primarily plush carpets along with an influx of environmentally responsible carpeting.

Popular carpet colors for bedrooms include grays and cool blues. You’ll see less bright bolds and more cool and calming colors. Perhaps an area rug to add in some of your personality.

2022 Trending Laminate Flooring Types

Laminate flooring was once considered a one-trick pony, copying simplistic wood looks and offering homeowners a low-maintenance wood flooring alternative. Statement-making laminate floors.

But with recent technological advances and laminate manufacturers stepping up their game, that’s not the case anymore. Yes, laminate is still affordable, but it offers a lot more.

Get ready to see laminate floors that rival the features of vinyl and the beauty of traditional hardwood.

Water-Resistant Laminate

Solid hardwood can be a lot of things, but waterproof isn’t one of them. That’s the beauty of laminate flooring! You can have wood-look flooring that is budget-friendly and can handle moisture.

The waterproof flooring trend is taking the world by storm, particularly with the influx of waterproof vinyl (WPC and SPC) flooring on the market.

Laminate handles water differently than waterproof vinyl. Laminate’s surface is waterproof, whereas WPC/ SCP vinyl is waterproof from top to bottom. If water gets spilled and is not cleaned up immediately, the laminate’s locking installation keeps moisture from the subfloor. However, if moisture comes up from below, or there’s a flood, the laminate can be damaged.

That’s right! You can have a DIY-friendly laminate floor that resists water. Even better – water-resistant laminate floors mimic all the current look and style trends of genuine hardwood and traditional laminate, giving you everything you could ever ask for in one sharp floor.

Will the water-resistant laminate flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes! Waterproof flooring is super hot right now across all types, and demand for waterproof laminate flooring will only continue to rise.

To stay on top of growing demand, many flooring manufacturers are releasing products made in the USA.

Stain-Resistant Laminate Flooring

If you think waterproof laminate is awesome, wait until you learn about stain-resistant laminate.

Everyone knows that spills happen. Whether they’re caused by kids, adults, or the dog, stains are inevitable. Laminate manufacturers wanted to make sure they had every base covered, and created laminate planks that are stain-resistant.

This means when accidents happen and are cleaned up promptly, your floor will not stain. It will continue to look fabulous and brand new.

Will the stain-resistant laminate flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Who doesn’t want a floor that can resist stains? Life is unpredictable, so it’s always good to have a bit of insurance for your floors. That’s why stain-resistant laminate will be a lasting trend for many years to come.

2022 Trending Laminate Flooring Textures

The days of smooth and shiny are gone. 2022 laminate flooring ideas will focus on rustic, characterized looks reminiscent of current wood flooring trends.

Expect to see scrapes, knots, burns, unfinished looks, and lots of color variance as we move towards a more comforting, homey style, veering away from sharp, modern elegance.

Reclaimed Wood-Look Laminate Flooring Trends

Laminate Flooring Trends

Unique, durable, and green, with each plank telling a story, it’s no wonder reclaimed wood has taken off so quickly.

Reclaimed wood means taking old building materials and re-using them. Essentially, recycling.

Often, reclaimed wood comes from decking, timbers, barns, etc. Although, now that it has become so popular, you will find reclaimed wood from unique sources like wine barrels and more.

Of course, laminate flooring cannot truly replicate the essence of reclaimed wood. Homeowners are not reclaiming laminate planks. Manufacturers are simply designing laminate planks to resemble reclaimed wood since it is so popular right now.

Reclaimed wood (usually) comes naturally distressed. Reclaimed wood-look laminate flooring mimics that with randomized scrapes, burns, knots, and more.

Will the reclaimed wood-look trend last in 2022 and beyond?

It’s doubtful. Unfortunately, the big push for reclaimed wood has a lot to do with it being environmentally responsible.

Laminate manufacturers will have longer life cycles with typical handscraped and distressed looks.

Embossed in Register Laminate Floors

2021 Laminate Trends: Estate WaterResist Laminate

For the most natural-looking laminate floor, the embossed in register surface texture is the move for 2022 laminate flooring trends.

An embossed in register surface provides beautiful realistic wood textures by creating indentations to mimic natural wood grains that exactly match the image layer of the laminate plank. Adding a warm, realistic texture to your floor, registered embossing makes your laminate floors look like completely realistic wood floors at a lower price than solid hardwood.

This trend is huge in laminate flooring because of how realistic the indentions look on the plank. In 2022, the more convincing, the better.

Will the embossed in register laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This texture of flooring will undoubtedly last 2022 and years to come based on its affordability and looks.

Distressed Wood-Look Laminate

Laminate Flooring Trends: Distressed 12mm Naturesort Country

If there is one consistency in 2022 flooring trends, it is that character is in.

Weathered and distressed looks are pretty similar to reclaimed wood looks. Weathered looks often feature a more subtle wirebrushed texture, while distressed looks go all the way with the appearance of knots, burns, scrapes, the works.

The only difference is that distressed laminate looks are created by machines in a factory, whereas solid hardwood gets its distressed look naturally over time. This means you won’t get the unique characteristics of traditional distressed solid wood. Instead, you can get the man-made distressed look at a fraction of the cost with distressed laminate planks. So you can have the trend and the convenience of easy maintenance all wrapped into one flooring.

Will the weathered and distressed wood-look laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

I believe there will always be a market for this type of flooring. It’s not something that every homeowner will love, but I predict it will stay relevant for the next 20 years.

Rustic and Handscraped Wood-Look Laminate

Hand scraping makes each plank appear handcrafted and one of a kind. In the past, laminate flooring trends have merely been embossed to look handscraped. Newer planks have a realistic touch to fully compete with solid hardwood floors in both looks and texture.

Long, ingrained scrapes show in the finish, leaving the floor looking unique and rare. This look is often very expensive in solid hardwood, but notably less costly in lookalike laminate.

Will the handscraped laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This unique, individual, handcrafted look will stand the test of time. It looks expensive, and people love expensive.

*Note: Many floors will claim to be hand scraped when, in reality, they have been etched by a machine. Make sure you’re purchasing your flooring from a reputable manufacturer to ensure things are true as they are labeled.

2022 Laminate Color Trends

The light flooring trend we saw in 2020 is still holding strong with beachy whitewashed looks. But you’ll see some warmer and medium-toned looks creeping in as well.

Of course, you’ll also see the familiar gray laminate floors. Gray is in for the long haul and will continue to top the trends charts for the next decade or so.

But what other color options are out there? Let’s talk about it!

Whitewashed Laminate Flooring Trends

Laminate Flooring Trends: 12mm TimberCore Waterproof Laminate

The whitewashed look is more of a west coast trend that is starting to spread across the country. Well, some parts.

As that relaxed, California vibe spreads, so are the floors that come with it, and white-washed laminate is at the top of the list.

In addition to the coastal look, whitewashed floors are also excellent for the now-trending farmhouse-style homes, particularly kitchens.

Now, when I saw “whitewashed.” I don’t mean a smooth, finished white wood. The whitewashed laminate typically shows signs of wear with the darker colors peeking out from underneath. It fits right in with the 2022 aged and worn trends happening across all styles of flooring.

Whitewashed floors will make your home look brighter, bigger, and more relaxed. It can give that “beachy” feel or also an upscale contemporary feel, depending on the rest of your decor.

With wood floors, many homeowners opt to whitewash the floor themselves as a DIY project. However, with laminate, we recommend buying pre-whitewashed floors. Manufacturers are selling lots of whitewashed laminate flooring options to meet the demands of this trend.

If this trend lasts, it will be regional, at best. If you’re looking for light wood, I suggest going for a more versatile blonde wood instead.

Light Wood Laminate

Gold Coast WaterResist Laminate

For years, lighter floors were viewed as outdated or inexpensive. That is no longer the case, not by a long shot!

As more homeowners embrace the light, airy feel in their homes, you will see a huge resurgence in light laminate wood floors. Blonde wood looks, in particular, can give you that light touch, with a timeless feel.

With light laminated wood, your decorating possibilities are endless. You can go for a chic, contemporary feel or a rustic, homey vibe, all without changing your floors.

Also, light laminate makes any room feel larger and more open, especially if you use large planks (but we’ll get to that later on). Unlike white floors, it is less likely to appear dingy and dirty, so it gives you the best of both worlds!

Additionally, light wood is on the newer end of the trend spectrum, so you won’t see too many homes that have gotten the memo just yet. That means, if you jump on board soon, you will look like a total trendsetter once it takes off.

Will the light wood laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

The light wood look will become a trend-turned-classic before you can even think about switching it up to something new. If you like it, go for it! It’ll be a hit for quite a while.

Gray Laminate

Gray laminate flooring: Mannington Historic Oak

Five years ago, you could have called the gray trend new or up-and-coming. But now? Is it even a trend anymore?

Well, if by “trend” you mean popular and relevant, then absolutely! But it is not a fad.

Gray wood-look flooring has grown exponentially over the last decade. Manufacturers tiptoed onto the scene, producing a few gray looks here and there to see how homeowners would respond.

Gray quickly became the most popular trend, not just for flooring, but for homes in general. Gray is just in!

In addition to looking chic and trendy, gray laminate floors set the tone of a cool, contemporary home. They give you a neutral backdrop for decorating in virtually any color. Aquas, greens, bright, bold colors, or even black and white – they will all go with your sleek gray flooring.

Will the gray laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes! Gray will probably stay in style at least until it’s time for you to purchase new floors anyway.

With improved flooring technology, it is now easier than ever to make your floors look more natural. In nature, no two pieces of wood look alike. The colors vary from plank to plank. Now, manufacturers can replicate this on their floors.

As homeowners embrace this trend head-on, you will begin to see stores with entire sections dedicated to high variation wood-look colors.

You will see some floors that incorporate bright colors with their neutrals. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter! The challenge with something bold like high color variation is that it’s a particular aesthetic. Sure, it will probably be trendy for the next decade or so. 2022 Laminate Flooring Layout and Pattern Trends

In 2022, patterns are still thriving!

Unfortunately, many people still imagine the dated 1970s parquet floors when they think of patterns, but over the last decade, flooring patterns have shown tremendous growth in modern, contemporary homes.

Get ready to see lots of designs and patterns in 2022.

Herringbone Laminate Floors

Herringbone vs. Chevron

If you are looking for something bold instead of a simple, streamlined floor, you’ll probably love this pattern. Herringbone is one of the most popular decorative patterns in homes today as it connects two planks at a 90-degree angle creating an intricate, angled design. This is the distinct difference between herringbone and the ever-popular chevron floor pattern, as shown above.

Herringbone flooring looks custom and can be as bold or subdued as you like. It can also create the illusion of a wider space, since the angle of the planks makes the layout more narrow. So you can be trendy, and give your space a major upgrade!

Herringbone patterns with longer planks will be super hot over the next year, especially among young homeowners. This may not be the trend to do your entire home in. However, long entryways, hallways, and bathrooms can look stunning.

Will the herringbone laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

While the herringbone pattern is very in right now, this trend isn’t likely to last forever, but it sure looks pretty while it’s here.

Chevron Laminate Floors

Chevron Laminate Flooring

Just because it’s different from herringbone doesn’t mean it’s not trending in 2022. The chevron pattern has been doing its thing for the last 10 years, and it looks like it only gets better with age.

You can get laminate planks that have the chevron pattern on them to create the ultimate eye-catching floor. Pair it with light wood, and installed in a dining room or breakfast nook, and viola, you are the trendsetter.

Will the chevron laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This trend will last in 2022, but it also has a shelf life. I predict the chevron pattern will live on another 5-10 years before moving on to the next trend.

Wide Plank Laminate Floors

Wide Plank Laminate Floors in a Living room setting

This is one trend you can expect to see every year in every style for the foreseeable future. Longer, wider planks make your room look larger, more open, more cohesive, and less busy.

While shorter, thinner, planks give more of a traditional hardwood look, they will also start to look outdated for that same reason.

I recommend getting on board with the large and extra-large plank trend!

Will the wide plank laminate trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Manufacturers are only trending towards even wider and longer planks. This trend will soon become a classic staple and will likely last the test of time.

2022 Trending Vinyl Flooring Looks

As I mentioned, the coolest thing about this year’s vinyl flooring trends is the realistic looks manufacturers can accomplish. Once upon a time, realistic wood-look vinyl flooring was unheard of. Now, I bet if I showed you some current options, you’d never guess they were vinyl!

Currently, you will find vinyl flooring available in styles that mimic current wood and tile flooring trends, and even a few vinyl-specific trends as well.

Wood-Look Vinyl

The consensus among design experts is that wood-look flooring and wood accents are the new neutral. Wood looks are incredibly trendy and versatile enough to go with tons of styles, from farmhouse to contemporary.

These days, wood-look vinyl is just as realistic as wood-look laminate

“Better technology is constantly being created and used to make vinyl flooring look more like real hardwood. Whatever you see trending in engineered hardwood, whether it is a rustic oil-finished Oak or a more contemporary smooth maple, the vinyl flooring industry will be quick to create a visual that will be nearly impossible to tell apart from the real deal. ” – Carly Notcha,US Floors

With that said, there are quite a few textures and wood-look species you should keep an eye out for this year. In 2022, vinyl manufactures will only be producing even more convincing wood looks mimicking the hottest wood flooring look and texture trends.

While vinyl typically uses embossing and prints for their looks rather than real scrapes and wirebrushing used in hardwood, you can still expect to see vinyl floors mimicking these looks in 2022 and beyond. Here’s the breakdown, just for you.

Trending Wood-Look Vinyl Textures

Handscraped: These looksfeature long, ingrained scrapes with high variation between planks, making each plank appear handcrafted, unique, and rare.Wirebrushed looks show subtle, intentional wire scratches leaving the appearance of exposed wood on the surface. These imperfections are smoother and more consistent than handscraped or distressed looks.Distressed: Distressed vinyl looks as though it’s been through a lot of wear and tear. You can expect to see the appearance of scrapes, burns, knots, wormholes, and more, giving these floors an aged, antique lookEmbossed in register Registered embossing means the textured surface is designed to exactly match the wood-look image underneath, so it looks and feels like the real thing.Micro beveled edges A bevel on the edges of a plank or tile adds more definition between each piece for an even more realistic look.Painted beveled edgesWant even more definition? A painted bevel adds an extra touch of realism with painted bevels to better emphasize individual planks.

Trending Vinyl Wood-Look Species

Oak This is one of the most popular wood looks for vinyl flooring. Oak looks feature straight grains and light brown tones.Pine A pine wood-look plank will feature a range of colors, often with prevalent knot textures.HickoryThis is one of the lighter wood-look options, with delicate grains that offer a lot of character.Walnut: The deep coloring and bold wood grain of walnut wood-look vinyl make this a great option for a classic or contemporary space.Acacia The pronounced grain and occasional knots create a distinct look that’s perfect for any aesthetic.Maple The light to medium brown tones of maple wood-look flooring deliver a classic aesthetic.

Will the wood-look vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

1,000 times, yes! Wood-look flooring will be trending for the foreseeable future and vinyl will only gain momentum and popularity over the next decade.

Stone-Look Vinyl

Once upon a time, porcelain and ceramic tile were the only way to get a beautiful, durable, realistic stone look. These days, technology allows for more types of flooring to share the scene. So everyone has to make their looks more convincing, stylish, and durable.

While laminate has always focused almost exclusively on wood looks, vinyl is known for its versatility in style and looks. You will typically see stone looks in luxury vinyl tiles (LVT).

Just like wood-look vinyl, stone-look vinyl uses the same technologies to create looks mimicking gorgeous, timeless natural stone. You don’t have to pay a fortune for soft, porous marble; stone-look vinyl flooring has changed the game.

Trending Stone-Look Vinyl Types

Marble: Chic and timeless, marble is one of those looks that will never go out of style. Marble is known for its unique veining and gorgeous translucence. It’s also known for being soft and porous. In 2022, you’ll see lots of marble looks, particularly Carrara, in durable, nonporous LVT.Limestone The gorgeous natural patterns of limestone are highly sought-after for a luxurious look, but the real thing can be high-maintenance. Now you can get beautiful limestone-look vinyl tiles at a fraction of the cost.Travertine: Travertine is the floor of castles and ancient architecture. But it’s only increasing in popularity in 2022. The versatile, neutral colors with distinctive patterns and veining are a timeless look that you can now find in affordable, low-maintenance LVT!Slate: Sharp and contemporary slate looks will be super trendy in 2022. Although the most common will be the dark chalkboard look, slate comes in a variety of colors and slate-look vinyl will mimic them all.

Will the stone-look vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes! Vinyl is giving porcelain and ceramic tile a run for their money with equally convincing stone looks with more warmth and resilience than traditional tile.

Stone looks are timeless, and now that they are more accessible, you will see stone-look vinyl well into the next decade and beyond.

While concrete is known for being a cost-effective flooring option, vinyl flooring, even luxury vinyl tile, is also known for being super affordable.

But you know what vinyl is not known for? Poor, aching feet from standing all day on a floor with absolutely zero give. Concrete is not awesome on your joints, so homeowners are now looking for this hot look in other flooring options.

Vinyl flooring is resilient and constantly innovating in realism. In 2022, you’ll see concrete-look vinyl in trendy condos, loft apartments, and lots of up-and-coming spaces

Decorative and Patterned Vinyl

Mannington Revive 12' Luxury Vinyl Sheet

Geometric patterns are huge in tile and carpet right now, so it only makes sense that this trend is trickling over into vinyl. Of course, natural and authentic looks are still kings of the vinyl castle, but it’s nice to see designers mixing it up a bit.

Some vinyl planks are now coming out with decorative and graphic styles to rival tile. Parquet patterns and classic trellis designs line up perfectly from plank to plank. Since vinyl planks are way easier to install than tile, lots of DIYers are going to gravitate to this alternative.

Kitchens and bathrooms are especially primed to benefit from this innovation. This is where creative flooring thrives, and it’s also where vinyl really excels. Honestly, it seems like the perfect combination.

Will the decorative vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This trend will continue to grow. This is a brand new frontier for luxury vinyl, and I could see a developing need for more decorative looks with the benefits of quality vinyl. At least for the next few years, I predict you’ll see this trend sticking around.

Luxury Vinyl Planks (LVP)

COREtec Plus 7

This is where some people get confused. LVP, LVT, and WPC/SPC vinyl are not interchangeable terms.

All WPC and SPC vinyl planks are a step above luxury vinyl planks because they’re waterproof.

“Luxury” means LVP is tougher, more durable, and more beautiful than older, outdated vinyl planks. These luxury vinyl planks feature a protective wear layer that works as a bodyguard to keep your floor safe from all the elements.

But! LVP is not waterproof. That’s fine because maybe you don’t need that extra-tough waterproof core for your living room. A little bit of luxury is all you need.

You will see realistic LVP prints in all the hottest wood trends without but with way less maintenance.

Will the luxury vinyl plank flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Absolutely. In the coming years, you will only see more vinyl as it begins to overtake laminate flooring.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT)

Smooth Flex Tiles

Luxury vinyl tiles are very similar to luxury vinyl planks, simply in tile form. I know, it was really difficult to get that from the name.

LVT typically offers realistic natural stone looks. It’s a warmer, more resilient alternative to tile, still giving gorgeous stone looks at an affordable price.

When vinyl first started gaining popularity, it was all about the tiles. This was before manufacturers developed ultra-convincing wood looks.

These tiles are still trendy; stone looks are classic and will never go out of style. However, I would steer you towards luxury vinyl planks over luxury vinyl tiles

Will the luxury vinyl tile flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes and no. Luxury vinyl tiles will maintain popularity, but luxury vinyl planks will take off over the next decade while LVT stays consistent.

Best of all, vinyl sheets can be temporary, especially if they have that fiberglass backing. That means you can lay it out with ease, and pull it up without a lot of hassle. Renters rejoice! Finally, a temporary flooring solution that doesn’t look temporary.

2022 Vinyl Flooring Installation Trends

I know, I know; there is nothing “trendy” sounding about flooring installation. No matter how big of a flooring enthusiast you are, it’s doubtful you sit at home thinking “OMG I am so excited about this trendy loose lay vinyl flooring!”

It’s not necessarily the look or the style that is trending here; it’s the idea that these new options are now available.

You see, vinyl flooring is all about making your life easier. Less maintenance, easier installation, more longevity. I’ve said it before and it still holds true: vinyl is the busy homeowner’s flooring

Loose Lay Vinyl

Seriously.

Loose lay planks are relatively new to the world of vinyl flooring. Now, many of the trendy wood-look luxury vinyl planks come in these DIY-friendly loose lay options.

Will the loose lay vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Probably. My prediction is that manufacturers will trend towards interlocking planks more than loose lay.

However, manufacturers will continue to produce beautiful loose lay vinyl planks to appease the DIY market. Once the floor is installed, no one will know the difference, so this is simply more of a preference.

Groutable Vinyl Tiles

shaw resort groutable tile

Vinyl tiles have been competing with porcelain and ceramic tile for years as they mimic natural stone looks with less maintenance and a lower price tag. Tile has this wonderful reputation as durable, high-quality flooring.

Butvinyl is probably the best option on the flooring market when you look at durability, style, price, and maintenance. It’s only going to get better.

Now, amazingly, vinyl manufacturers have created groutable vinyl tile, just like traditional porcelain and ceramic tile. At last, you can find luxury vinyl tiles that look just like their ceramic competitors but with more warmth and resilience

In the next few years, you will see lots of stone-look groutable vinyl tile options popping up all over the flooring market.

Will the groutable vinyl tile trend last in 2022 and beyond?

I do think it will stay in style, but I don’t foresee it becoming the next big thing. I still think wood-look SPC vinyl is where it’s at in the vinyl world.

2022 Vinyl Flooring Color Trends

Going into 2022, we’re moving more toward light, desaturated colors, with lots of cool tones thrown into the mix. You won’t find a lot of yellow, orange, or red undertones. Plus, the lights are getting even more extreme with more white-washed, beachy looks.

Homeowners are increasingly using flooring to set the tone or feel of their home. That means, we need more options! And manufacturers are responding with more beautiful colors than ever before.

Of course, not all of them are trending. Here are the best vinyl floor colors to stay trendy in 2022.

Light Blonde Wood-Look Vinyl Flooring

venice-rigid-core-planks

As more homeowners embrace the light, airy feel in their home, you will see a huge resurgence in blonde wood (and wood-look) floors. These blonde colors can give you that light feel, while still feeling timeless.

With versatile blond wood looks, your decorating possibilities are endless. You can go for a chic, contemporary feel or a rustic, homey vibe all without changing your floors.

Blonde vinyl does something that’s kind of magic. It makes your home seem way bigger. It’s true; blonde wood-look vinyl makes any room feel larger and more open, especially if you use large planks. But we’ll get to that later on.

If you ask me, the blonde wood look will become a trend-turned-classic before you can even think about switching it up to something new. If you like it, go for it! It’ll be a hit for quite a while.

 LIGHT WOOD-LOOK VINYL

Whitewashed Wood-Look Vinyl Flooring

COREtec Pro Plus XL Enhanced Rigidcore Planks

The whitewashed look is more of a west coast/California trend that is starting to spread across the country. It’s becoming popular for the farmhouse kitchen look as well. A whitewash style makes everything look cool, clean, and artfully antiqued.

Now, when I say “whitewashed,” I don’t mean a smooth, finished white floor. Whitewashed wood-look floors typically show signs of wear with the darker colors peeking out from underneath. It fits right in with the 2022 aged and worn trends happening across all styles of flooring.

Whitewash will make your home look brighter, bigger, and more relaxed. It can give that “beachy” feel or also an upscale contemporary feel, depending on the rest of your decor.

Will the whitewashed vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Over on the east coast, homeowners are still turning their nose up at the whole west coast look and feel. If this trend lasts, it will be regional, at best. If you’re looking for a light wood look, I suggest going for a more versatile blonde look instead.

Will the white tile kitchen flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Yes! White is super hot right now. Even as dark colors faded out of the trends, whites are only becoming more popular.

Gray Vinyl Flooring – In All Looks!

New Standard 2 Rigid Core Planks

Gray vinyl flooring, particularly in wood-look, has grown exponentially over the last decade. Although gray vinyl tiles, particularly in stone looks, are also very popular in the kitchen.

In addition to looking chic and trendy, gray floors set the tone of a cool, contemporary home. They give you a neutral backdrop for decorating in virtually any color. Aquas, greens, bright bold colors or even black and white – they will all go with your sleek gray flooring.

Designers are now even starting to blend grays with other neutrals, like beige, to create hybrid colors. These “greige” colors are the best of both worlds. You get the cool, contemporary feel and grey combine with the neutrality of beige. Also, keep your eyes peeled for charcoals and gray-browns joining the scene.

Blue Vinyl Flooring

Adura Max Apex 16

Feeling blue? That doesn’t have to be such a bad thing with blue vinyl flooring. In fact, this is one of the newest color trends to hit the market as cooler tones take over.

You’ll find blue more with the decorative side of vinyl (because who’s ever heard of blue wood?). It’s becoming more common with geometric and graphic patterns in light grayish-blue.

Keep in mind, we’re talking light, almost gray-blues, here. Don’t run out and buy neon blue flooring thinking you’re a trendsetter. In this case, the more reserved and more neutral you go, the better.

Will the blue vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

For a while! Blue is kind of like a neutral these days, but the trends always swing back and forth between warm and cool tones. Five years from now, it might still be in style. Ten years from now? Not so much.

High Variation Vinyl Flooring

TritonCORE Pro 7

High color variation vinyl can feature variation between planks, in each plank, or both. This gives you a look with lots of dimension and excitement

Homeowners love the natural, rustic look that higher color variation vinyl provides. In nature, stone and wood aren’t so uniform. There are all kinds of inconsistencies.

Now, with modern technology, you can achieve these more random, natural looks with previously only available in specialty wood flooring with vinyl! This makes your floor more of a statement piece and tends to pair best with simple but contemporary decor.

Will the high color variation vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

The challenge with something bold like high color variation is it’s a very specific aesthetic. I believe they will likely be trendy for the next decade or so.

2022 Vinyl Flooring Layout and Pattern Trends

“The way you lay a flooring pattern can really spice up whether it is trendy or not. You can pick a very classic floor but lay it in a herringbone pattern to add drama to any room. Herringbone and Chevron patterns are showing up everywhere, as well as laying a room on a diagonal.” – Courtney Greger,My Flipping Job

This year, patterned floors are a huge hit.

Unfortunately, when people hear the word “pattern” or the dreaded “parquet” (which, BTW, just means pattern), they imagine the horribly out of date 1970’s parquet floors.

Don’t worry – today’s patterns are anything but dated. You’ll see sleek, upscale, modern designs as well as larger and larger tiles and planks.

Chevron and Herringbone Vinyl Floors

COREtec Plus Enhanced Herringbone Waterproof Vinyl

First, let me clear up a little misconception. Chevron and herringbone are very similar, but each has its own distinction.

Chevron floors require flooring to be angled and come together to a point. Although, some manufacturers are producing vinyl tile and vinyl sheet products with the hexagon and chevron patterns in the tile itself, which is pretty darn cool if you ask me.

Herringbone achieves a similar look by connecting two planks at a 90-degree angle as seen below.

chevron vs. herringbone

For traditional vinyl planks, herringbone is much more accessible than chevron. However, the chevron vinyl tiles and sheets allow you to achieve this look without spending extra money on materials and installation.

Long-plank herringbone patterns are going to be super hot over the next year, especially among young homeowners. But I suspect you’ll also see a surge in chevron tiles, especially in kitchens, as well.

Will the chevron and herringbone vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

This trend isn’t likely to last forever, but it sure looks pretty while it’s here.

And, it will probably stay trendy in the kitchen the longest.

Large Plank Vinyl Floors

Shaw Messina HD Plus Waterproof Plank

This is one trend you can expect to see every year in every style for the foreseeable future. Longer, wider planks make your room look larger, more open, and less busy.

Soon, short, thin planks will be seen as outdated. In fact, I would venture to guess that going with smaller planks could significantly reduce your home’s resale value. And also, they just won’t look as good.

Now, I do think eventually we’ll hit a limit for how large these planks can get. But, I definitely recommend getting on board with the large plank vinyl trend

Will the wide plank vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Manufacturers are only trending towards even wider and longer planks. This trend will soon become a classic staple and will likely last the test of time

WIDE PLANK VINYL

Large Format Vinyl Tiles

Shaw Easy Vision Vinyl Tile

Large format tiles have been trending for quite some time with manufacturers continuing to create larger and larger individual tiles.

Wonder why they’re so popular? Large-format vinyl tiles make your room look bigger, especially if you choose a light color. Just like large vinyl planks.

Will the large format tile vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Without a doubt! Large-format tiles and wide planks are here to stay.

Hexagon Vinyl

Mannington Benchmark 6' Vinyl Sheet

Now, this is a busy pattern I can get behind! While I still believe that, in most cases, smaller shapes make your room look smaller and busier, hexagon-pattern sheets are just so darn cool!

Hexagons first gained popularity in the early 20th century, typically accompanied by subway wall tiles. They can provide the classic, vintage look that is quite popular at the moment.

However, you’ll also see ultra-modern, almost futuristic looks over the next several years. Imagine super clean, sharp lines, whites, blacks and grays, and very minimalist decor. That’s this new futuristic wave of hexagon vinyl floor tiles.

Will the hexagon vinyl flooring trend last in 2022 and beyond?

Sparingly. I do believe you’ll continue to see hexagon vinyl tiles over the next decade. But, the bigger trend will continue to be larger tiles and planks. This is more of a niche market
